GW Women’s Basketball Team Clinches Third Straight A-10 Title
By: Jack Linnehan
Needing a win to secure a top 2 seed and bye in the upcoming A-10 tournament, GW traveled down to Richmond Wednesday and did just that, defeating the Spiders 63-44. Lexi Martins recorded her ninth double-double of the season, posting 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Kelli Prange added 11 points. The Colonials shot 40% from deep and 44% from the field, while holding Richmond to just 31% from the field.
The win puts GW at 20-8 overall, their 21st 20-win season in school history. GW finished the season rattling off 7 straight victories, finishing with a 13-3 record in conference play. They finish in a tie for first with Dayton, having split their season series.
GW will aim to win their 3rd straight A-10 tournament next week. By earning the 2 seed, GW gets a bye the first round. The Colonials will play either #7 Duquesne or #10 George Mason on Friday, March 3rd at 4:30 pm in Richmond. The Colonials split their series with Duquesne, and swept their matchup with George Mason this season. You can listen to GW’s A-10 tournament games right here on WRGW Sports, at gwradio.com.
