GW Men host UMass
By: Matt Montag
The GW Colonials (14-13, 6-8) host the University of Massachusetts Minutemen (13-14, 3-11) tonight at the Charles E. Smith Center in a battle of two A-10 teams hovering .500.
Last time out, the Colonials beat the Duquesne Dukes by a score of 77-70. Four players hit double-digits in that affair, while Tyler Cavanauagh led the team with 19 points. GW has been getting solid play from its freshman all season, with Colin Smith, Arnoldo Toro, and Jair Bolden leading the pack. Bolden has especially excelled since claiming the starting point guard role in early January. Tonight he will look to hit double figures for the fourth time in five games.
The Minutemen are in the midst of a brutal slide, having lost two straight and seven of their last eight. They are anchored by junior guard Donte Clark who has averaged 13.3 points per game in his impressive three-year career at UMass. This year Clark has averaged 14.3 points per game while maintaining a field goal percentage of .423.
The two teams have not yet met this year, but GW has won the last three meetings between the teams including an 81-70 win on the road last year. I believe that the Colonials have the deeper team and that Tyler Cavanaugh and company will prove too much for the Minutemen to handle.
