GW MBB looks to sweep season series vs Duquesne
By: Zuri Lawrence
The George Washington men’s basketball team is in Pittsburgh, PA looking for a much needed win against a struggling Duquesne squad. The Colonials (13-13, 5-8 A-10) are coming off a disheartening loss to the Davidson Wildcats and will be looking to improve their conference standing starting with a much needed win against A-10 opponent Duquesne.
The Dukes (10-16, 3-10 A-10) are coming in with a blowout win against UMass, 96-66 where Mike Lewis II scored 31 points; one point shy of the freshman game high record. Lewis II has proved to be a key asset in all-around play showing his efficiency in scoring and aggressive action underneath rim to battle for rebounds. The other freshman Mike on the team, Isiaha Mike, has been impressive by scoring more than 20 points in multiple games this season; this duo has been a key element in the Dukes win this year.
The Colonials should look to shut down both Lewis II and Mike to have a chance at shutting down the Dukes scoring while keeping an authoritative presence down low to contest any post power from Duquesne. The last meeting between these teams this season was decided by a single basket, 65-63, so GW should expect a tough Dukes defense. The Colonials cannot afford another costly conference loss with only five games left in the regular season, the team will have to rely on their quick speed and tough defense to win this game.
Prediction: GW – 71 Dukes – 65
