GW MBB falls to FSU 67-48

By: Daniel Stettin

Florida State (7-1) was technically the away team Sunday afternoon, but they felt right at home at Verizon Center after dominating GW (5-4) 67-48. FSU led by as many as 35, but GW ended the game on a 18-2 run fueled by Kevin Marfo’s career high 18 points and 9 rebounds.

The Seminoles were led by G Xavier Rathan-Mayes’ 11 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals. FSU played its best defensive game of the year, holding GW to just 22.6% from the field. This game was all FSU from the start, although GW did hold FSU to a season low in points.

For the first time in a GW uniform, Tyler Cavanaugh did not reach double digit points. Cavanaugh, who shot just 4-15  Saturday, struggled again with just 8 points on 2-9 shooting. Yuta Watanabe and Patrick Steeves both sat out with a calf and knee injury respectively.

Next up for the Colonials will be the Temple Owls this Wednesday night at 7:30 in Philadelphia. WRGW will not be covering the game but we will have updates through our twitter account, @wrgwsports. The next men’s game we will be covering will be next Saturday vs the Howard Bison at the Smith Center. Our coverage will start at 3:45 PM with the game tipping off at 4 PM.
