GW WBB Preview vs VCU

By: Jonathan Rhone

The Colonials kick off A-10 regular season play with a showdown against the VCU Rams. GW has had a strong start to the season posting a 5-2 record through its first seven games. The Colonials, led by senior forward Caira Washington, have been scoring at an impressive rate this season, averaging 68.1 points per game. The Colonials, who are projected to finish 4th in the A-10 this season are looking to get off to a good start against the Rams who are projected to finish 5th. This is the first conference game for new head coach Jennifer Rizzotti, and a win in her first conference game will be a monumental success.

GW’s opponent, the VCU Rams enter tonight’s game with a record of 4-3. The Rams play safe and smart basketball, forcing teams into turnovers and not committing many themselves. They also have been solid on the boards this season and have good size in the front court. VCU will bring an experienced team to Foggy Bottom this evening with six seniors on the roster.

Expect a tough, hard fought encounter for the Colonials this evening. VCU has proven to play tough defense and rebound effectively. The colonials will have to play a smart and efficient game, and most importantly limit their turnovers if they hope to win. Look to senior Caira Washington to lead the offense that has been so effective this season for GW. A strong performance against the Rams is critical to setting the tone for the rest of the A-10 season. This will be no easy task for the Colonials, but expect them to pull out a win at home.

GW: 67

VCU: 59
