GW MBB Preview vs UAB

By: Jack Linnehan

George Washington will take on the University of Alabama-Birmingham Blazers in the 3rd place game of the CBE Classic tonight. The Colonials (3-1) lost a close one to Georgia yesterday 81-73, while UAB (2-2) lost to Kansas 84-64.

The Blazers spread out the offense well, with four players averaging over 10 points. Leading them is senior guard Dirk Williams (13 ppg), who also shoots an impressive 44% clip from deep. Chris Cokley (11.8 ppg), Tyler Madison (10.5 ppg), and Hakeem Baxter (10 ppg) all could come up big on offense for UAB. However, the team averages 17 turnovers per game, and this could come into play if the Colonials whip out the 1-3-1 defense.

GW will be eager to bounce back after the disappointing loss to Georgia, and UAB is just outmatched in the frontcourt with no apparent answer to Tyler Cavanaugh. Look for him to have another huge game, and I expect Yuta Watanabe to once again find his form on the offensive end.

GW wins this one, 71-59.
