Georgia hands MBB first loss of season

After GW was able to tie up Georgia 68-68 with 4:04 remaining in the second half, the Bulldogs would end the game on a 13-5 run to hand the Colonials there first loss of the season at the Sprint Center Monday evening. Matt Hart led the way for GW, hitting 5 triples before ending with 17 points after fouling out with 14 seconds remaining. Tyler Cavanaugh also had a strong night, with 21 points and 4 triples. Leading the way for Georgia, as expected, were Yante Maten and JJ Frazier with 18 points each.

The Colonials really struggled at the line on a night where they shot 12 percentage points lower then there season average going into the game (74.5% entering the night, shot 62.5 tonight). However, the three’s finally started falling for the Colonials, hitting 10 triples after only having 16 in the three previous games. The Bulldogs were able to shut down the Colonials on the glass, limiting GW to just 30 boards after averaging 49 in the previous three games.

Next up for the Colonials will be the third place game of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic vs UAB on ESPN3 at 7:30 PM. The Blazers fell to #5 Kansas 83-63 in their first round game of the Classic. Kansas will play Georgia in the championship game Tuesday night at 10 PM on ESPN2. WRGW’s live coverage of Colonials Basketball will return next Tuesday when GW takes on Harvard.
