The GW Colonials (2-1) picked up their second win of the season with a dominant 77-46 victory over the Coppin State Eagles (0-3) Wednesday night.

Guard Keena Samuels of the Eagles led all scorers with 17 points despite shooting 5-18 overall, also chipping in 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Second on the Eagles was Forward Vanessa Neal who shot an efficient 5-12 to rack up 12 points to accompany 5 rebounds.

For the Colonials, Forward Caira Washington led the way with 16 points on 8-10 shooting, 9 rebounds (5 offensive, 4 defensive), 2 steals and a career-high 6 blocks. Junior Guard Camila Tapias impressed with her outside shot, going 2-5 from 3, totaling 10 points. Transfer Lexi Martins had a limited role, but that didn’t get her down as she grabbed 7 boards to go with her 8 points and a block.

The Colonials were the frontrunners from the start, leading 23-10 at the end of the 1st and 47-19 at the end of the half. Hot shooting from Brianna Cummings and a couple of 3’s from Sophomore Forward Kelsi Mahoney all contributed to the win. Not only that, but the Colonials owned the rebounding game, grabbing 59 for themselves, and only giving up 33 to Coppin State.

Next up, the Colonials are on the road as they take on the Villanova Wildcats (1-1) this Sunday at 1 PM. WRGW Coverage will begin at 12:45 PM on gwradio.com
