GW MBB beats Siena 77-75

The George Washington Men’s Basketball Team (2-0) defeated the Siena Saints (1-1) 77-75 in a back and forth game that saw 17 lead changes. GW was led by Jaren Sina’s 16 points, all of which came in the second half, and Yuta Watanabe first collegiate double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Siena was led by Marquis Wright with 21 points but just 5 in the second half and Javion Ogunyemi, with 19 points and 7 rebounds.
The Colonials held a 8 point advantage after a Three Pointer from Yuta Watanabe with 15 minutes remaining in the second half, but the Saints would respond with a 12-0 run to take a 4 point lead. The Colonials would hold on after Matt Hart and Jaren Sina both hit free throws to ice the game.
GW dominated on the boards, out rebounding Siena 46-29 including 16-9 on offensive boards. GW also was able to reach the line 10 more times than the Siena, going 18-23 from the charity stripe.
The Colonials will be back in action Thursday night in the second game of the campus portion of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic against Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 7 PM. WRGW’s coverage will begin at 6:45 at Gwradio.com.
