Womens Gameday vs La Salle
January 13th, 2016
By: Daniel Stettin
Coming off a riveting victory last Sunday over conference foe Dayton, the George Washington Womens basketball team (13-3, 3-0 A-10) returns to the Charles E. Smith Center for a midweek clash with the La Salle Explorers (3-13, 0-3 A-10).
The Colonials are playing with some momentum right now, with the team reeling off 8 consecutive victories with the last over Dayton being the most impressive. The team trailed by as many as 15 points late into the third quarter before rallying to victory. Senior center Jonquel Jones was named the National and A-10 player of the week after scoring 23 points and grabbing 15 rebounds (her 13th double-double of the season) and hitting the go ahead 3-pointer with 1:19 remaining in the fourth quarter.
The Explorers meanwhile, are on a 3 game losing streak most recently to George Mason last Sunday. They are home to the A-10’s leading scorer, Sophomore wing Amy Griffin, who is averaging 17.8 PPG. This will be La Salle’s 2nd trip to Washington DC this season as they won at Howard University on December 2nd.
The Colonials took home a 67-48 victory over La Salle last season in Philadelphia with Jones leading the way with 12 points and 16 rebounds. GW currently holds an all time record of 32-5 vs La Salle, including a 14-2 record at the Smith Center.
Prediction: For tonights game, I expect a similar result as last season with the Colonials taking home a 20+ point victory.
