The Colonials wrap up their two-game swing through New England in Amherst today when they visit UMass. GW will attempt to win their 14th straight game in a nationally-televised contest with a slightly improved Minutewomen team looking for a small bit of revenge after losing twice to the Buff and Blue last season.
The duo of Jonquel Jones and Caira Washington will, once again, be asked to carry the load for the Colonials. Both players had immense success against UMass a year ago, with Jones having a 20 point, 17 rebound day in the first meeting and Washington finishing with 25 points and 16 rebounds in the second. They will also need to stop UMass’ Kim Pierre-Louis, the Atlantic 10’s third leading scorer at 18.4 points per game on an efficient 54.5 percent shooting. Pierre-Louis had 14 points in 15 minutes of action off the bence in the last game between these two teams, but she has really taken her game to the next level in a starting role this year.
WRGW’s coverage with Mike Martenak and Jeff Pawling begins at 1:50 with tip off scheduled for 2 pm on gwradio.com.
