January 12, 2015: This Week in GW Athletics

It’s a relatively quiet week in GW Athletics until Saturday, when six different athletic squads will be in action.

Both the men’s and women’s squash teams are back in Foggy Bottom after successful trips to Northern California. The men’s team won both of their scheduled matches, defeating Bates College 5-4 on Saturday and Stanford 5-4 on Monday. They now get ready to face Navy on Wednesday and Williams College on Saturday here on campus before traveling to face Middlebury on Sunday in New Haven, Conn. Meanwhile, the women’s team won two of their three matches in Palo Alto and will host Williams College on Saturday before taking on Middlebury and Dartmouth in New Haven on Sunday.

Both swimming teams go head-to-head with District rival Georgetown this Saturday. Both teams finished 2nd of three teams at the Rhode Island Invitational, beating out the host Rams but losing to UMass.

Indoor Track gets underway for the women’s squad this weekend while the men’s team is back in action after a month-long hiatus. Both teams will be in action for the Maryland Indoor in Hyattsville. The men are led by junior Ryan Tucker, who finished 6th of 16 runners in the 3000 meters at the Navy Invitational back on December 6th, the program’s inaugural meet.

GW will host the annual Lindsay Ferris Invitational this Sunday, where they welcome Pittsburgh, North Carolina, Temple, and Cornell to the Smith Center. The team won their first event of the season at College Park, where they beat out Maryland and West Virginia with a total of 194.325 points.

The women’s tennis team begins their spring schedule on Sunday at the Southeast Tennis Center, where they will host Morgan State.
