The Colonials are back from Honolulu and ready to wrap up their non-conference schedule and close out calendar year 2014 at the Smith Center with a matchup against VMI on Tuesday night.
GW is fresh off three wins in a span of four nights, including an upset of #11 Wichita State, en route to the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic title, their first in-season tournament championship since 2004. Kevin Larsen was instrumental in the Colonials title run, averaging 11.3 points and 8.3 rebounds a game to earn Diamond Head Classic MVP and Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honors. Yuta Watanabe added nine points per game to win the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week award.
VMI comes in with the nation’s most potent offense, averaging nearly 88 points a game. However, their scoring defense is ranked 341st out of 345 Division I teams, allowing just over 81 points per game. Q.J. Peterson leads the Keydets in scoring with just under 21 points per game, good for eighth in the nation.
WRGW’s coverage begins at 6:45 with tip off scheduled for 7 pm on gwradio.com.
