Colonials Open Junkanoo Jam with Win over N.C. State
In a homecoming for Colonials junior forward Jonquel Jones, the GW got a 74-66 win over the NC State Wolfpack Friday in Freeport, Bahamas.
Jones led the way for the Colonials (4-2) with 22 points and nine rebounds, with 18 of those points coming in the second half. After leading by eight at the break, the Colonials led by as much as 17 in the second period, but a 15-3 run by the Wolfpack (4-2) helped get N.C. State to within four. The comeback was led by Dominique Wilson, who came off the bench to score 14 of her team-high 21 in the second half. Late shots inside by Jones, a Freeport native, helped seal the win for the Colonials.
GW played to their strength inside behind Jones, Caira Washington, and Kelli Prange. 62 of the Colonials’ 74 points came from either the paint or the free-throw line. GW won the rebounding battle 41-28, with 16 of those coming on the offensive glass.
With the win, GW will play Purdue on Saturday at 3:15 PM to try to claim victory in the Freeport Division of the Junkanoo Jam. You can catch the action at gwradio.com and at JunkanooJam.com, where WRGW will also be providing the audio for the video stream.
